Learn how to heal yourself

Qigong is a form of exercise that has been practiced for centuries in China, and it is characterized by slow rhythmic movements along with deep breathing techniques. This practice aims to align the mind, body, and spirit through the cultivation of a balanced state of being. By practicing qigong regularly, individuals can enhance their mind-body connection, which in turn, allows them to cultivate greater awareness and control over their thoughts and emotions. Scientific studies have shown that qigong can also help to reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, and improve overall health and wellbeing. Qigong has become a popular alternative therapy in the West for those seeking natural, holistic approaches to improve physical, mental, and spiritual health.

My Qigong Journey

IMG_0222.jpg

My Qigong Journey started in my early 20’s without even knowing while my Aikido teacher Sensei Gadi Marcus incorporated Qigong into our warmup routines, something about the repetitive movements synchronized with the breath captured my attention. I later learned it was the Eight Silk Brocades Qigong from or as It’s Chinese name, Ba Duan Jin.

Running a Chinese medicine practice and a business owner, I have also became very busy and relied on other practitioners for my own health maintenance. The need to rely mostly on others for the sake of my health did not sit well with me since I believe that we all should be active participants in our own well being.

In this realization I have started to invest my time and resources into Qigong practice and studying and began to feel stronger than I ever was, health issues that have bothered me started dissipating, I had more energy and life became easier and less stressful even though reality didn’t change ,my business was even busier and I actually had more “to do” on my list.

Over all the years of providing care for others I have been asked by patients what can they do between treatments in order to support the effectiveness of their treatment, after “testing the water” I have started teaching patients methods that proven themselves over thousands of years and have helped me as well.

When people are in a healthy state of being and able to follow their true nature something really great happens, they become more focused on themselves and less reactive, they are healthier and are able to manifest what makes them happy. When people are happy, they feel better and are friendlier to others and our world becomes a better place to live in.

More About Qigong and Mind Body Connection

IMG_0157.jpg

Qigong has been practiced in China and has been a part of Chinese medicine and culture for thousands of years.

The word Qi (氣) refers to life`s energy. It is composed of two words: (气) steam that rises and (米) rice grain. In this connotation, it is the steam that is rising from the cooking of the rice. Qi can be translated as gas/ air/ vital energy / weather/ to make angry/ to annoy/ to get angry.

Depending on the context and other characters showing up with it in a sentence, the meaning can vary.

The word Gong ( 功 ) is composed of the radical (工) which means work and the character (力) that means power. The translation of Gong to English is meritorious deed or service / achievement / result / service / accomplishment / work.

Putting the words together, the meaning of Qigong is to cultivate life`s energy or literally ,Breath Work. Qigong has evolved through history, and the term Qigong is a new term to ancient practices that developed over time

The ultimate practice of Qigong is meant to bring one to an ultimate state of health and strength based on the focus and the purpose of which it is practiced for

The popularity of Qigong in China grew through the evolution of martial Qigong when Damo (Bodhidharma), an Indian Buddhist monk who is now considered the patriarch of the Shaolin practices, came to China.

Damo had noticed that the monks who were performing spiritual practices were weak and have neglected their physical body. His observation and understanding led to a change. Damos’ teachings promoted the idea that in order to cultivate high spiritual practice, the body needs to be strong as well and include demanding physical practices along with the cultivation of the mind.

His most famous teachings are the Muscle and Tendon Changing Qigong (Yi Jin Jing Qigong) and the Bone and Marrow Washing Qigong (Xi Sui Jing Qigong).

One of the most famous Qigong “flows” is The Eight Silk Brocades, or Ba Duan Jin in Chinese. This flow is considered to be founded by a famous general named Yue Fei about 500 years after Damo. The form known as the Ba Duan Jin as taught now days is a “diluted” version of real version which is actually a complete practice system. Political changes in China over the latest centuries have impacted much of the ancient practices in this manner.

In the Qigong courses at Stillpoint Acupuncture and Healing Arts many of taught methods are authentic and passed on from master to student over the years, they are not commonly available and were not impacted by political changes through history.
